Andaman Discoveries study tour programs provide students with a personalized service trip set in the traditional culture and ecology of the rural, tsunami-impacted Andaman Coast of southern Thailand. We work closely with educators to provide comprehensive study tours that meet specific pedagogical objectives and include cultural highlights of the country at the most competitive price possible.

Study tour program offers educational and community service trips to schools, universities, and educational institutes for students of all ages and abilities. Experience is the best teacher, and we organize hands on, student-centered learning activities led by a team of trained International and Thai staff. we provided the package 3-7 days programs and one day program.

Study tour and Service learning tour lead your students on an exploration adventure of a life time!  Take your study topics out side of the classroom and allow interactive learning to take place in the cultural and natural diversity of the North Andaman Coast. Stay at the home of a Thai family in a small village to immerse your group into different aspects of Thai life.  Participate in authentic cultural exchange with the help of your translator and enjoy delicious homemade meals made with care.  Engage in local conservation efforts and enjoy the beauty of the pristine nature in the region.

Learning Objectives include:

  • Study the key cultural, economic, and sustainability issues of these coastal communities.
  • Direct service – understand how service learning and reciprocal learning works to benefit students as well as communities.
  • Study the biodiversity and inter relatedness of the eco-systems in the region including mangroves, beaches, tropical rain forests, coral reefs, and estuaries.
  • Explore first-hand the interrelation of community development, coastal ecology, natural resource use, and conservation (e.g. traditional livelihoods and culture, tourism, community organizing, and environmental action)
  • Experiential learning of analytical concepts such as sustainability, gender equity, and community vulnerability/resilience.
  • Access a community’s knowledge base on disaster management, natural resources, and traditional livelihoods.
  • Conduct effective scientific and/or sociological field research, surveys, and exchanges in local communities;

    Program Overview

    Package 3 days, 5 days, 7 days, 10 days

    Day 1: Conservation and Ecological Restoration Service Project

    Program start in Kuraburi at the Andaman Discoveries office for a pre-trip briefing and cultural orientation. Transfer to the accommodation leave your luggage and then go directly to the community project.

    Southern Thailand boasts  two of the world’s oldest ecosystems: jungle and coral reefs.  The area also has extensive mangroves forests, soaring waterfalls, and lush jungles perfect for exploring and understanding the relationship between nature resources and human activity.

    Play a role in helping to protect these amazing and beneficial ecosystem by participating in an environmental conservation and restoration service activity.  Try your hand at planting mangrove seedings restoring riverbeds or replanting the endangered water lily species unique to this area!

    Work alongside the local community and learn about the ecological systems in the local area and how they are meaningful and important to the local communities.

    Enjoy eating delicious meals with your local community partners and even learn about the local ingredients that they use to cook with!

    Day 3:  Service Project and Homestay village

    Morning Continue to finishing community project

    After lunch, finish up your service project and say goodbye to your local partners. Transfer to the charming village by the sea of Ban Talae Nok meet your host family, and be welcomed into their way of life. Take a walking tour of the community with your local guide to learn about the history and lives of these villagers. See an area of the village that was destroyed by the 2004 tsunami and learn how this event affected the community

    Take part in a handicraft workshop and learn the art of Batik, a technique of hand-dyeing fabrics by using designs drawn in wax.  You can create your own design or have your hosts draw one for you, then color in the beautiful designs, and keep your creation as a souvenir.

    Take a short walk to the beach where you can relax and bask in the spectacular colors of an Andaman Sea sunset

    Dinner – enjoy a barbecue dinner on the beach with your hosts and feast on freshly-caught seafood, garden-fresh vegetables, and Thai curries.  Overnight at Homestay, comfortable bedding and mosquito net provided

    Day 4: Local Life

    Breakfast at Homestay and then Handicraft workshop – the women’s group, established after the tsunami, makes beautifully hand-crafted soap, using only the finest natural ingredients. Watch an informative demonstration and then make soap for yourself with the expert guidance of the soap ladies, and keep your creation as a souvenir

    Learn to weave leaves of the nypa palm with the villagers and help make traditional roofing from a local mangrove plant

    Lunch – enjoy authentic southern Thai food with your homestay family

    Fishing with local – Learn to fishing with your host family, depending on tides and expertise, fish in the canals or the beach with nets or poles, spearing shrimp, collecting cram or catch crabs with traps .

    Spend your time before dinner relaxing on the beach

    Dinner at homestay after dinner, enjoy more cultural exchange by trying on traditional Muslim clothing to learn more about your hosts’ religion and how it is connected to their culture and daily lives

    Day 5: Local life

    Making Thai Dessert – Try your hand at grating the coconut and filling the palm leaf with the batter, then grill and enjoy the delicious snack hot of the fire.

    Lunch at homestay and then pack and say good bye to your friendly hosts, transfer to Kuraburi, End of program.

    Day 5: Surin Island Moken Experience

    Early breakfast at homeasy and then transfer to Surin island by speedboat.Surinisland National Park is a paradise of fine white sandy beaches, thick jungle, crystal-clear waters, and some of the best coral reefs in Thailand.You will have a unique private tour of Surinisland with the original Moken inhabitants of this tropical paradise!

    Check into your tent accommodations at the National Park Headquarters.  

    Lunch at National park Restaurant.

    After lunch, meet your local guide and take a long tail boat trip to the Moken village.  A tour around the village is an insight into the intricate relationship between the Moken and their surrounding environment. Learn about the brightly colored “Spirit Poles” and Moken homes, built on wooden stilts directly on the beach.       

    Go snorkeling with your Moken guide.  They will take you to a wonderland of colorful tropical fish and allow you to witness the impressive Moken swimming techniques.  End your day and return to the park headquarters to relax and enjoy the sunset from the white sand beach.

    Overnight: KohSurin National Park, tents on the beach with bedding provided; electricity generated from 6-10 pm

    Day 6– Surin Island English Camp at Moken School

    After breakfast, Transfer to Moken village begin you service project at the Moken School. Put on an English camp with the excited and enthusiastic students and teachers.  The students are eager to learn about different countries’ wildlife, trees and plants. Introduce games and activities from your own country!

    Return to the park headquarters to have a Thai style lunch.

    After lunch, head to theMoken village and continue your fun and interactive English Camp.  In the evening, return to the park headquarters and enjoy free time to walk the beach, relax, and enjoy the sunset.      

    Overnight: KohSurin National Park, tents on the beach with bedding provided; electricity generated from 6-10 pm

    Day 7- Surin Island Moken Experience, Cultural Activities

    Reunite with your Moken guide and return to the village to learn how to row the traditional Moken Rowboat and learn the traditional art of spearfishing. Say goodbye to the students and your new friends from the village!  If time permits, head out for one more snorkeling adventure.  Return to the park headquarters to have a Thai style lunch and then return to the mainland around 4.30pm. End of program.

    Day 1- Arrival to Phuket International Airport, Experience Phuket

    Experience the island of Phuket, which draws over three million visitors yearly.  This is one of Thailand’s top tourist destinations and offers a wide range of activities, international foods and accommodations. Check into your hotel.  Take time to explore the surrounding environment, enjoy the beach and shopping. Enjoy an independent lunch and afternoon activities.

    Have a group dinner at the hotel and get a briefing about your upcoming service project and cultural activities

     

    Overnight: Comfortable Phuket Hotel

     

    Day 2-4:  Service Project in Local Community in Ranong ,Phang Nga or Phuket

    Conservation & Ecological Restoration: Southern Thailand boasts two of the world’s oldest ecosystems: jungle and coral reefs.  The area also has extensive mangroves forests, soaring waterfalls, and lush jungles perfect for exploring and understanding the relationship between natural resources and human activity. 

    Play a role in helping to protect these amazing and beneficial ecosystems by participating in an environmental conservation and restoration service activities like mangrove reforestation or riverbed restoration.

    Teaching/Infrastructure/Beatification of local educational facilities: Assist at local schools or learning centers to broaden the children’s language skills and engage in fun and interactive activities. You may also assist with improving the infrastructure at these facilities and help with small projects to beatify the schools and centers to allow for a more inspirational atmosphere of learning.

    Andaman Discoveries has a broad range of local community partners that often times need assistance with the above projects.  We will reach out to them and see if and what their greatest need is and how your group can integrate into the project to maximize the benefits.  This ensures that your group is getting a meaningful experience and that the service project is a need and necessity for the local community partners.

    Day 5:  Village Homestay Experience

    After Breakfast wrap up your service project and say goodbye to your community partners. Transfer to the small beach village of Ban Tale Nok to meet your host family and be welcomed into their way of life. 

    Take a walking tour of the community with your local guide to learn about the history and lives of these villagers. See first-hand an area of the village that was destroyed by the 2004 tsunami and learn from survivors how they have recovered.  For lunch, enjoy authentic southern Thai food with your homestay family.                       

    Enjoy a handicraft demonstration and learn the art of Batik, a technique of hand-dyeing fabrics by using designs drawn in wax. Keep your creation as a souvenir.  Then, learn how to weave traditional roof panels from Nypa palm leaves.

    Enjoy a spectacular Andaman sunset while eating a delicious barbeque dinner on the beach

    Overnight:  Ban TalaeNok Homestay, comfortable bedding and mosquito net provided.

    Day 6: Village Homestay Experience

    Head into nature to explore the mangrove forest in a long-tail boat. You may spot various birds, monitor lizards and monkeys.  Continue your journey out to the Gam Islands, only 10 km from the coast of the village.  Arrive to the uninhabited white sand bays and explore the surrounding nature, then go for a swim and snorkel in the clear blue waters.  Learn why the villagers often come out to these islands to fish and collect edible shells.  Have a delicious picnic lunch on the beach and enjoy the view.

    Return to the village and go fishing on the beach with the local fisherman. Then, participate in a handicraft workshop with the women’s soap group and keep it as a souvenir.  In the evening, relax on the beach for another sunset or learn the essentials of Thai cooking. After dinner, try on traditional Muslim clothing and talk with your homestay families about their culture.

    *Gam Islands are available during dry season November – April.  For rainy season, enjoy an extended mangrove tour

    Day 7– Khao Sok National Park, River Adventure

    Make a local Thai desert with your host family and share in one last lunch together.  Transfer to Khao Sok National Park and bask in the beauty of a 20 million year old rainforest and immerse in the natural environment.  Head out for a canoe adventure with the local community group.  Drift past the towering limestone cliffs and take in the countryside landscape.  Along the way stop for hot coffee or herbal drink, served in your handmade bamboo cup.

    In the evening go on a scheduled Night Safari included in your program.  Explore the jungle at night to learn about the many nocturnal animals and insects that come to life in the dark!

    Overnight: Jungle Resort

    Day 8- Khao Sok National Park, Jungle Survivor

    Participate in a jungle survivor day course that is led by experienced park rangers.  As you walk in the jungle, they will point out local resources, flora and fauna.  Learn how to make a fire and cook a forest to table meal by cooking rice and curries in bamboo. Enjoy your meal sitting by a refreshing river.  Take time to relax and swim.

    Day 9- Floating Bungalows, Jungle Hike or Cave Exploration

    Have breakfast and then transfer to Cheow Larn Lake.  This man-made reservoir has outstanding beauty with its towering limestone cliffs and jungle-clad hills.  Take a long tail boat ride to your floating bungalow accommodations.  Enjoy a Thai style lunch of local vegetables and fresh fish from the lake.

    With your local guide, head out into nature for a guided hike or cave exploration. 

    In the afternoon, relax and swim from the footsteps of your bungalow.  Take a kayak out to survey the surrounding jungle and view wildlife. Spend your night in your floating accommodation on the lake, a fairytale experience of unforgettable peace and tranquility.

    Overnight: Floating Bungalows

    Day 10- Floating Bungalows, Morning Mist Safari

    Awake early to catch the best of wildlife viewing in a longtail boat.  Watch the hornbills fly in the mist rising against a backdrop of colorful limestone cliffs and try to catch the gibbons playing in the trees.

    Return to the lake house for breakfast, then pack your bags and hop on the longtail boat.

    Travelling back across the lake, your boat driver will show you some of the hidden bays and rock formations that make the lake so special. 

    Arrive back at the Rajaprabha Dam and end the program.
