Lesson 8 – Telling Time

Stage Time Teacher Activities/Description Materials
1. 5 min Engage time: draw clock face on board. Random times + "o’clock" Whiteboard, markers
2. 5 min Engage "Pasan kit?": murai = when Whiteboard, markers
3. 5 min Engage Teacher: "Pasan kit noun?" (with pictures of the Market, Post office, Hospital, Pier, School etc.) Places around town flashcards
4. 5 min Engage Hold up a picture and a clock time. Say, "I will go to the market at 3 o’clock.” Whiteboard, markers
5. 10 min Engage Hold up a different times on the clock and drill. Whiteboard, markers, model clock
6. 10 min Engage Hold up a picture and a clock time
Teacher: "When will you go to the market?"
(Thai: "khun bi ta lat murai cup.")
elicit : "I will go to the market at 3 o’clock."
(Thai: "Phom bi ta lat sarm mong yen.")
Large location cards, whiteboard, markers, model clock
7. 10 min Study Drill:
When will you go to the Post office?
When will you go to the Hospital?
When will you go to the Pier?
When will you go to the School?
Ss take notes!

8. 15 min Activation Give Students two sets of cards (place and time on them). Students walk around the room and find the same partner by asking questions. (Ss cannot show their cards to each other!) Repeat. Small location cards with times written on them.
9. 10 min Engage Hold up a picture and a clock time.
"I went to market at 3 o’clock."
(Thai: "Phom bi ta lat mar murai.")

10. 5 min Engage/ Study Hold up a different pics and times on the clock and drill  
11. 5 - 10 min Study Drill:
"When did you go to the market?-
(Thai: "Khun bi ta lat mar murai?")

12. 10 min Study elicit : "I went to the market at 3 o’clock."
When did you go to the Post office?
When did you go to the Hospital?
When did you go to the Pier?
When did you go to the School?
Ss take notes!

13. 15 min Activation Ss stand up!
two teams – 4 sets of cards
one set of cards at the back- pic of place –S1
one set of cards at the front- pic of place + time – S2
S1 pulls a card with pic and asks:
"When did you go to the market?"
S2 finds the market card with pic + time and says,
"I went to market at 4 o’clock."
First team back wins a point.
Rotate Students!
2 sets of cards with only locations and 2 sets of cards with location and time
14. 10 min Engage Students in a circle. Elicit and drill days of week (Sun – Sat) around the circle. Go faster and faster Whiteboard, markers
15. 10 min Engage/ Study Drill again with days of the week added.
"When will you go to the market?"
"I will go to the market at 3 o’clock on Saturday."

16. 10 min Activation Students stand up, walk around the room, and ask random people random questions about time and days.  
17. 15 min Activation Two circles. All cards face down on the floor. Ss pick up a card. "When did you go to the _____?" When they pick up the corresponding card ("I went to _____ at [time of day].") they keep the card. Cards from stage 13
