Lesson 7 – Prepositions of Place

2. 5 - 10 min Engage/ Study Drill and concept check. Point to the objects and let Ss shout out names. Gradually speed up the pace while simultaneously removing objects. Point to the blank space and se if they remember. Classroom realia
3. 5 min Engage The pen is on the bag

Elicit on, in, and under. Then elicit the full sentence.

4. 10 min Activation Ss in pairs take turns placing items in, on, or under something else and describe its location using the correct preposition of place. Monitor and correct. Classroom realia
5. 5 min Study/ Activate Concept check:
Is the bag in the pen?
Is the book under the pen?
Use another object and elicit on in under.

6. 10 min Activation Group in a circle. Go around the circle point and name an object with a preposition. Give examples. "The bag is on the floor." Classroom realia
7. 5 - 10 min Engage Next, elicit beside (next to), behind, and in front of

8. 15 min Activation Ss in pairs. Ss take turns of placing objects "in prepositions" relative to each other. Elicit the correct preposition. Award a point for each correct one. Classroom realia
9. 15 min Activation One Ss from each team out the front. Teacher shouts a preposition of place. Ss race to physically do a place the object correctly. Award a point to the team to finish! Classroom realia
10. 15 min Activation Demonstrate very well
Teacher: places a pen on a desk. What did I do ?
S1: You put the pen on the desk.
S1: (puts the pen somewhere.) "What did I do?"
S2: "You put the pen _____."
S2: (puts the pen somewhere.) "What did I do?"
S3: "You put the pen _____."
And so on (use other objects as well)

Teacher: describe the picture without the prepositions

13. 15 min Activation (optional for stronger Ss) Prepare a text in advance that contains prepositions. Take out the propositions and print them on a separate sheet, then cut this sheet so that each preposition is on a piece of paper, then put all of them in an envelope . Divide the class into groups and give each group an envelope. Tell the students that you are going to read a text and whenever you raise your hand they should bring a suitable preposition and put it on your desk and that the fastest team would get points. Read the text with each groups' order and cancel a point for each mistake. Finally read the text with correct prepositions. You can play this game with adj. as well as a, the and an.
