Lesson 10 – Weather Stage Time Teacher Activities/Description Materials 1. -- reference Lexis to recap/introduce: Weather: rainy, windy, sunny, hot, cloudy, cold, stormy Shapes: triangle, circle, rectangle, square Prep of place: on, in, behind, under, next to, above, near, in front of Face: nose, mouth, eyes, ears, hair Simple directions: up, down, left, right, stop   2. 10 min Engage/ Recap Ask random studentss "What is your name?" "Where are you from?” “How old are you?” “Do you have any brothers and sisters?” etc.   3. 10 min Recap/ Activation Spin the Bottle Game! Ss have to answer a question and can then ask anything before they spin again. Ask “How’s the weather?” before the last spin of the bottle to introduce theme. bottle or equvalient 4. 10 min Engage Elicit about the theme with weather flashcards. Ask Ss, "How's the weather?" Point to the sky. (rainy, windy, sunny, hot, cloudy, cold, stormy) Draw on WB and use actions in addition to visuals. Hand out "Appendix 37 - Weather Worksheet." Ss complete Part A on their own. Review the answers while drilling the conversation format in Part B. First one to finish wins. whiteboard, markers (or large sheets of paper) 8. 10 min Study/ Activation Give example of pairs speaking practice using small flash cards. Cards face down, one students asks “How’s the weather?” and picks up flashcard facing other student who answers, "Its [weather]." paper, Appendix 35 - Weather Flashcards 9. 5 min Engage Elicit shapes using flashcards. Appendix 36 - Shapes Flashcards 10. 15 min Activation Concentration game: make two sets of each flashcard (weather and shapes) and place them upside down on the floor (may require adding an opaque backing). Ss in teams. Each time a card is turned over, have Ss say the word. Drill several times. When a pair is found it remains overturned. Weather and Shapes flashcards X2 11. 10 min Study (optional) Hand out "Appendix 38 - Temperature Fill in the Blanks" and see if Ss can complete. They should already grasp the numbers and "hot" and "cold." Stronger Ss might help weaker ones with "freezing" and "cool." Optionally, elicit "thermometer." Make sure to pre-teach the language, or modify it. Appendix 39 - World Weather Worksheet 13. 5 min Recap recap prepositions of place using classroom objects. classroom realia 14. 15 min Activation Ss in teams have to draw shapes in certain places: draw a triangle in a square, draw a circle next to a rectangle etc. First to finish correctly wins. whiteboard, markers 15. 10 min Study/ Recap recap parts of the face and simple directions (up, down, left, right, stop). You can make the later more fun using TPR. whiteboard, markers 16. 15 min Activation/ recap Split into teams and stick big piece of paper up on wall and draw a big circle for each team.
