Successful season for Moken on Koh Surin

The national park on Koh Surin closed on the 15th of May and will be closed to visitors for a few months. With the low season starting we would like to look back on the past season on Koh Surin. It has been a very successful season in which many people visited the Moken on this beautiful island. We received 20 bookings from responsible visitors who were interested to hear the stories of the Moken and witness their traditional way […]

Study and Service Trip Adventures

We had a stupendous season of study and service groups and specialized groups that fall into an ever growing niche of young adults and people that choose to travel with the mindset of immersing in the local culture in a sustainable way and giving back to local communities in whatever way is needed. The groups got to know the “people and the place” along the Andaman coast, relishing in an authentic experience that brings people together, creating memorable experiences that […]

Volunteering at Kuraburi high school

Hello! Sawadeeka! I volunteered as an English teacher at Kuraburi Chaipattana High School for 9 weeks from Mid-January to Mid-March 2018. It was the last semester of the academic year before the summer break. With little to no experience in teaching students formally in my home country (but my friends always filled me in with their teaching adventures), I set foot at Kuraburi Chaipattana on Monday, 15th January 2018, just 24 hours after turning twenty-six years old. I was attached […]

AD Staff Community Involvement Spotlight: Get Out and Give Back!

We are all familiar with sitting in the office and getting things done, but we strive to get out and check in with our community friends. Pi Nat and Pi Tui attended Da Luang’s annual Waterlilly conservation day in Kuraburi.  Da Luang is a an older Kuraburi Local who has set up a natural nursery and conservation area for the endangered Water Lilly that was wiped out due to river bed dredging. His passion and devotion to the project allows […]

Absorb the feelings of life by the sea

A few weeks ago I joined the Andaman Discoveries team to Ko Klang, a charming fishing island in the province of Krabi. We stepped onto a traditional Andaman long-tail boat from Krabi town and the first thing I notice, when arriving on the island, were the friendly smiles of the residents that welcomed us. After a sidecar drive, across the island, we stopped at a small village near the sea named Klonglu. Along the road the sight deviated from small […]

Volunteer experiences!

Don’t dream your life.……Live your dreams! Hans & Shahide We are a couple and we live in Holland. For a long time we had the urge to go abroad for a volunteer project. This is the first time we could realize this cherished wish.  For 8 weeks we were at the Tung rak School in the south of Thailand. We prepared our trip with the local organisation Pure! and Andaman Discoveries in Thailand, Kuraburi. The need for the project was to […]

Volunteers Experience!

We would never have guessed that we could get so much appreciation and learn so much in only 5 weeks! We were privilaged to volunteer at the Bankura School in Kuraburi, where we taught English to the children. We noticed that the lessons are given by a government issued live broadcast instead of a teacher who explains everything. On one side that is good, because the children can always follow class (sometimes the teachers are gone). On the other side […]

Andaman Discoveries Volunteer Testimonial

There are certain moments that are life changing. We may not even recognize them at the time. Like the day when the guy gave you your first office job and you didn’t realize you were looking for one. Like the day you went back to college and you became addicted to knowledge and didn’t stop until you had your master’s degree. Okay, so those were a 2009, but I wasn’t sure what to think of working with the children. That […]
