Study and Service Trip Adventures

We had a stupendous season of study and service groups and specialized groups that fall into an ever growing niche of young adults and people that choose to travel with the mindset of immersing in the local culture in a sustainable way and giving back to local communities in whatever way is needed. The groups got to know the “people and the place” along the Andaman coast, relishing in an authentic experience that brings people together, creating memorable experiences that […]

AD in the Community

Pi Tui, Pi Nat and Bang Hem from the community tourism team in Ban Talae Nok headed to Koh Yao Yai community based tourism training in partnership with IUCN. The community on Koh Yao Yai would like to open a homestay program and IUCN invited AD and Bang Hem to train them and have an open discussion about how to succeed in running a sustainable community based tourism program.  The first day was focused on introducing the principles of CBT […]

Get out, Give back and travel with a purpose! We would like to thank all of the groups that participated in study and service trips this year. We hope that planting these seeds of meaningful stories and connections will allow for more people to […]

Guest Testimonials

Ban Talae Nok Homestay Program We immediately felt incredibly welcomed into the community and enjoyed the food both at lunch and dinner. The beach dinner really was spectacular! The sun was setting as we ate, it felt like a dream come true. The soap making was so interesting and it was lovely to engage with some women of the community, we stayed and talked with them for quite a long time and learned a lot about their culture. We moved […]

Ban Talae Nok Homestay Experiences!

For my family and I the thought of staying in a stranger’s house, in a foreign country, with the inability to speak the language was a scary prospect. However our experience in the village was one that we will remember for the care and kindness of the village people. We were met with open arms and throughout our needs were catered for. Our host was extremely generous in letting us share her home and was very open towards us.   […]

Andaman Discoveries Volunteer Testimonial

There are certain moments that are life changing. We may not even recognize them at the time. Like the day when the guy gave you your first office job and you didn’t realize you were looking for one. Like the day you went back to college and you became addicted to knowledge and didn’t stop until you had your master’s degree. Okay, so those were a 2009, but I wasn’t sure what to think of working with the children. That […]

Ban Talae Nok Homestay Experience

Swimming in the Gam Island is definitely my most precious memory in Ban Talae Nok. Among all memories, this particular experience is very exciting and challenging for me. The water in the Island was so beautiful; I couldn’t resist myself to take this opportunity to snorkel. I have to say, I am ZERO in my swimming skills. Hence, I was a little scared because the water looked so deep and I kept having this mindset that I will sink even […]

“ Cruise around Tsunami Havens Project”

Andaman Discoveries was pleased to welcome back Mr. Takashi Higashiyaman and Ms. Hidemi Nishura to participate in a program that focused on the Tsunami relief project of Saori weaving around the Andaman Coast. During the program, Takashi and Hidemi visited different communities that were struck by the Tsunami. They were all given the opportunity to learn the traditional skill of weaving and then asked to weave a portion of a 10 meter cloth that has been passed around the world […]

Crabbing & crafts: A Thai Homestay Experience

The food is one of my strongest memories from my trip to Ban Talae Nok two weeks ago. We had spicy curry with chicken, deep-fried mackerel, sweet doughnuts for breakfast, rambutan fruit, and fresh crabs. I had crab meat before, but catching them myself in the mangroves and later cracking them open during a dinner at the beach takes seafood to a whole new level. Hands-on! Crabbing was only one amazing activity during our homestay experience in the Muslim village. I […]
