Directions: stop, turn left/right, go over bridge, go straight, it’s on the left, it’s on the right

  E Prepositions of place Leads class in a quick warm-up and recap of the prepositions of place by arranging items in front of the class and asking OC questions. Introduce between and at the corner. Concept check. Responds box, ball, pen, book, chair, various other realia 5 min Brilliant. Even the ones who were missing yesterday got it quickly.
  S/A Prepositions of place Have Ss in pairs practice asking “Where is the pen?” while the other student places it somewhere.  SS1: Place pen, Where is the pen?
SS2: The pen is on / in / behind / under/below/next to/near/at the corner/ the book
Pens, books, other realia 5min Am I dreaming? Don’t pinch me! This was brilliant! Phet added realia to her demonstration to do “between”
3 (1st class) A All prepositions of place Demo task: get realia and nominate one SS
Put the book under/below the table
Put the pen on the book

Monitor – SS recreate the scene in the picture by telling their partner where things go

  E directions TPR: Have Ss stand. Shout orders Marine style (Go Straight! Turn Left! Turn right! Stop!) Should go damn fast as they’ve had this all before. Responds direction flashcards (from previous lessons on this topic) 3 min No problem.
  E/S directions Question: “How do I get to the computer room?” “How do I get to the bathroom?” Possibly have Ss follow and direct me there? Responds and becomes familiar with the concept. none 1 min good introduction.
  E/S Directions Places flashcards in a town-like arrangement (use the bridge flashcard to elicit go over the bridge). Put the Yellow Martian Man somewhere. Asks “How do I get to the gas station?” Repeat with a couple other places.
Introduce new lexis: It’s on the right.
