NOTES:

Postmortem:
Overall this lesson was mixed; they got the hang of the language but it was a hard lesson to manage – lots of moving around the classroom – to do the pictures I had them sitting opposite each other, even turning chairs around and placing them opposite each other produced confused looks, and I’d pretty much moved all of them myself before they figured out what I was doing. This wasted time. I think this lesson was too bitty with too many weird tasks, that were unfamiliar to them.  It was like they needed to see the point of the language before they learnt or practiced it, they didn’t want to have fun with it in the classroom.

DND Prepositions of place homework recap – timing.

This part of the lesson worked in that it demonstrated how easily they could manipulate the language and use their imaginations to make up sentences with things around them  Some did well, some really struggled. I was horrified when the lower class looked at me amazed when I started to talk about comparatives, they repeated ‘than’ as though they’d never heard it before.  See next lesson for solution to this.
This didn’t really work as well as I’d hoped.  They weren’t getting into it, in the general class this worked really well. I think it’s a good one for small groups but not bigger groups. I was asking them to free practice in groups and they didn’t respond to it that well, they kept looking for me to lead it.
I demoed this, but because they didn’t really practice the language during the throw the screwed up paper game they didn’t use it that much in this task.  Big problem with showing the pictures rather than speaking which I’d predicted, but it’s hard to do this task in any other way than a mingle. They need to be into the point of the game in the first place to want to not show their pictures to each other.
Did this as an oral comprehension and it didn’t go that well, I redid the TPR a few times and they totally had it, but they couldn’t translate it to another context that well. Needed Thai instructions on the worksheet.

Keep:
Prepositions of place TPR with pens & books.
There is/there are using pictures
Reading & writing exercise for there is/there are worked well for stronger class, really got them thinking about both the adjectives and plural/singular. Didn’t do with lower class.

Dingy:
Preposition of place practice activities

Change
Better introduction lesson for comparatives superlatives to be ablet o cope with the recap task of making their own sentences.
Thai instructions for tasks, especially listening/reading comp worksheet – labeling diagram.
