Handicraft Tours

Accessible from any hotel in the region, including Phuket, Khao Lak, Khao Sok, and Ranong

The people of the North Andaman region engage in many handicraft activities as part of their day to day lives. You might see women weaving thatched roofs, baskets or floor mats from various types of palm leaves. Other women make colourful sarongs or scarves.

In addition, the area is home to several tsunami handicraft cooperatives, which were established after the tsunami to provide vital new forms of income for people who lost their livelihoods and women who lost their husbands in the tsunami. Locally produced crafts include beautiful wooden replicas of Moken boats, natural herbal soaps and greeting cards made from recycled paper. These inspirational groups prove that creativity, determination and cooperation can help overcome an adversity as devastating as the tsunami.

Our handicraft tours enable visitors to try their hand at a number of these local crafts. Watch the experts at work, and then have a go at making your own piece of soap, batik artwork or palm basket. And best of all, you get to keep what you make, and take it away with you as a unique and memorable souvenir.
