Cultural Tours

Accessible from any hotel in the region, including Phuket, Khao Lak, Khao Sok, and Ranong

Whether you're vacationing in Phuket, Khao Lak, Koh Surin, or Khao Sok; biking in the region; on a visa run to Ranong; or simply looking for something a little bit different, a Cultural Tour to a traditional Thai village could be for you. Our Cultural Tours are an ideal way to experience the captivating lives of the villagers who live along the North Andaman coast.

The cultural diversity of the North Andaman region makes it a fascinating place to explore. The people are diverse, consisting of Muslims, Buddhists, and Moken Sea Gypsies, each with their own unique culture. Many local fishermen and farmers still make their living by traditional methods. Unfortunately, much of the area's fauna and flora is under threat from habitat loss and over-use, as well as the encroachment of mass commercial tourism. In recent years local communities have realized the potential of sustainable tourism to negate these threats and conserve the ecological and cultural integrity of the region.

Our Cultural Tours enable visitors to gain first hand experience of the traditional Thai way of life. You can take part in activities such as weaving Nipa palm leaves to make a traditional thatched roof, visit a local fish farm or orchid conservation center, make natural handmade soaps with the ladies soap cooperative, or your very own batik painting.

The villagers welcome people from all over the world into their homes and are keen to share their lives and stories with their guests. The people are a huge source of inspiration, as many of them have rebuilt their lives after the 2004 tsunami. By visiting the village you are directly supporting their long-term strategy to use low impact community-based tourism as a way to reduce pressure on their natural resources and allow fish populations to recover.

One highlight of your trip will be joining a Thai family for lunch and eating traditional Thai dishes cooked by the professionals themselves: the women of the village. With no restaurant in town, you'll be served Thai cuisine that rivals any five-star restaurant, prepared from the freshest local ingredients and local knowledge. If you're vegetarian, or don't eat spicy food or seafood, just tell a member of staff about any special dietary requirements in advance. We can cater for most tastes and diets, but we do ask that you be willing to try new things!

The Cultural Tours are available in one-, two-, or three-day options. All the programs begin in our office in Kuraburi for a pre-trip introduction to our organization and a short briefing on what you can expect in the village. You will then be transferred to the village, where a warm welcome awaits you from your host family. Homestay accommodation is simple but comfortable, and you will be provided with basic necessities such as a mosquito net. Our translator will accompany you throughout your time in the village.
