Hike to Eagle Mountain

View from Eagle Mountain

Getting to this peaceful village is an adventure in itself, a long-tailed boat through lush mangrove forests passed quaint wooden krachang (floating fish farm) and then a brief walk through the cashew orchards. Once there, visitors can take a pleasant stroll through the dense forests of Eagle Mountain. A highly trained and fluent guide will highlight points of interest throughout the trek, including delicate wild flowers and medicinal plants. Once reaching the top, visitors will have sweeping panoramic views of the Andaman coast and the lush mangroves below.

Cashew Nut Harvesting

Roasting Cashews in TND

During the month of March, Tung Nang Dam's sprawling cashew orchards bear their surprisingly pear-shaped fruit. Guests can watch the lengthy process involved in harvesting the cashew nuts and join in the lively roasting process. After this, each cashew nut is individually shelled by hand, ready for sale in the local market.

Harvest Fruit

Let local villagers introduce you to some of Thailand's unique local fruit. During the green season of June, July, and August, the island's fruit orchards come to life. Feast on an exotic array of durians, rambutans, jackfruit, mangosteens, and logans picked straight from the tree. Join in the fun process of selecting ripe fruit then enjoy them immediately or later at the homestay.

Wondering around the island you will notice rows of rubber trees with their characterstic coconut shell collecting pot attached to each one. See how the locals process this natural latex, from tapping the tree to rolling it into the finished product. A main source of income for the villagers, it is eventually used to make tires, diving fins, and shoes.

Thai Cooking Classes

Learn how to cook a variety of mouth watering Thai dishes with the experts themselves, the women of the village. These women have culinary skills to rival any five-star chef and will share their skills with you so that when you return home you can impress your friends with a authentic Thai dinner party! Spend a full morning or afternoon in the kitchen with comprehensive demonstration and hands on practice. At lunch or dinner, relax and enjoy the dishes that you created with the villagers.

Explore deep into the winding mangroves on a traditional long-tail boat or row boat. Under the mangrove canopy, head into the wild to discover an amazing world camouflaged amongst the tangle of roots, branches, and foliage. Experience a wonderful display of birdlife; including exquisitely colored kingfisher, waders and even the occasional lucky sighting of an owl. See other wildlife, including monkeys and small cats, which to come to the water’s edge to feed on crabs lurking in the mud.

Traditional Fishing

Head out through the lush mangroves in a long-tail boat and into the open sea to join local fishermen on their daily trips. See them hauling in their traditional fishing nets by hand revealing a bounty of sea life including groupers, red and white snapper, tuna and barracuda. You'll also learn about sustainable fishing techniques and the variety of traditional traps and nets used to catch squid, lobster, crabs, and fish.

Tung Nang Dam boasts a beautiful beach, lined with palm trees and soft, white sand, the perfect place to chill out or catch a stunning Andaman sunset. Inviting warm tropical waters and gentle waves make this beach a great place to swim. In the evening the sky comes alive with color as the sun sets over the horizon.

In the evening young villagers come to the beach to play football and volleyball, and visitors are welcome to compete with the locals. For the less energetic, sitting and watching can be just as fun.
